CITY OF CALAPAN -- A five-meter tidal wave spawned by Typhoon "Quiel" crushed 26 houses and damaged 50 others in the coastal villages of Paluan in Occidental Mindoro, a local disaster official said Saturday. The giant waves struck the shoreline of 10 to 12 villages in Paluan, a town in the north-western tip of Mindoro island, said Edward Emmanuel Yambao of the municipal disaster risk and reduction management office. A total of 58 motorized bancas were totally damaged, Yambao told the Inquirer.
