Customs seizes P4.4 M smuggled sugar

MANILA, Philippines --- The Bureau of Customs-Port of Manila (BOC-POM) seized on Wednesday an estimated P4.4 million worth of smuggled sugar in eight shipping containers.   The bureau on Thursday said the smuggled sugar was discovered after a Customs examiner found traces of sugar in the shipments which were declared as steel coils.   BOC said the shipment from China arrived at the Manila South Harbor last August 30 and was consigned to RZTREC Trading.   A warrant of seizure and detention was immediately issued against the shipment for violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA). /gsg ...
