MANILA, Philippines --- Following the magnitude 5.4 and 5.9 earthquakes that shook Batanes Saturday morning, residents of the country's northernmost province continue to experience several aftershocks. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said that the initial magnitude 5.4 quake in Itbayat, Batanes struck the town at 4:16 a.m., followed by a stronger 5.9 magnitude quake at 7:37 a.m. Several weaker aftershocks were recorded by Phivolcs, ranging from magnitude 1.7 to magnitude 3.5. The weaker tremors were reported in the towns of Itbayat, Basco, and Sabtang. The Phivolcs, however, said no destructive tsunami threats were expected following the quakes. ...
